TAU advances to the UPA Club
Championships
Our local mixed club team, TAU, placed third in the Mid Atlantic region, securing a bid to the national tournament played October 29 - November 1 in Sarasota, Florida.
TAU won the North Carolina section played in September, and entered in to the regional tournament with a 4th place seeding. After advancing to the semi-finals of the championship bracket on Saturday, TAU lost to the eventual second place finisher, Axis of C-ville. TAU dropped into the second place bracket, where they beat inter-sectional rival Olio before loosing to Hooray for Coed in the semis. The loss sent TAU into the third place bracket semis, where they again beat Olio and earned a rematch with Hooray.
In the third place final game to go, TAU dominated a stunned Hooray team and won a heated contest by an astonishing 15-11 score. This game is seen by some to be an upset, as Hooray finished in 9th place in the 2008 championships. But, in fact, this was the second time this season that TAU beat Hooray, and in this case TAU erased all doubt that they were deserving of a place in the UPA Championships.
